Novelty…Can Wii Drop It Already?

Below is a snippet of an LA Times article and it’s gone beyond annoying anymore when “analysts” refer to the Wii as only being a novelty and when it wears off it will stop selling.

How LONG are we going to have to hear ignorant analysts and fanboys rant on about the Wii being a novelty? Two years? Three years? FIVE years?

I think it’s about time you novelty activists except the fact that, wait for it, the Wii is more then a novelty. How long are you going to sit there and say wait for it…it’s about to wear off and that’s when the PS3 will DOMINATE. You can wake up know ’cause it ain’t going to happen. Not in this year nor the next. In five year, no. Sorry. But if you want to keep on lying to yourselves so be it. Just don’t voice it out load unless you want to sound like an idiot.

“As it raced past rivals to become the hottest new video-game console, some analysts predicted that Nintendo Co.’s Wii was little more than a fad. Try telling that to Geoff Allen, who hasn’t grown sick of playing the Wii after almost five months. He, his wife and his father all have gotten hooked on “Wii Sports.”

“Some analysts think the novelty might wear off and, when it does, consumers will stop buying new games for the Wii. The difference between the Wii’s graphics and those of its rivals, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, also might become more noticeable as developers create games that take advantage of the more powerful consoles’ processing power.”

“So far, demand is outstripping supply. Stores are selling out of the Wii within hours of receiving them. Sales of the Wii are so hot, the Japanese company is widely expected to increase its annual sales forecast of 14 million units for its current fiscal year.”

That doesn’t mean it’s not a novelty. All novelties go through this phase. (Well, the good ones anyway)

Wii is a novelty, face it. Every forum I’ve been to has users talking about how they haven’t used their wii in months because the novelty of the motion sensing has worn off, and the games aren’t good enough to play on their own merits.

That is called…there isn’t any games they want to play.

    That’s like saying the PS3 & 360 are a Novelty for their graphics…

Plan and simple saying the Wii is a novelty and will be nothing after the novelty feel wears off is ignorance.
