Well IGN has reported on Mario Strikers Online and its use of Friend Codes. With that came the sick twisted reminder of what is to come when I want to play a game online for a Nintendo System. Be it the Wii or DS I will continue to feel disconnected when playing a game online.
If you haven’t noticed I’m a big Metroid Prime Hunters fan but…randomly connecting to distant players with out the ability to communicate can be about as fun as fighting bots and yet sometimes less exciting.
The actually inputting of a Friend Code is really painless and only takes a few seconds of my life. It’s not that process that has come to be an annoyance, it’s the lack of networking capabilities that is offered for one to meet other gamers to exchange these said codes for maximum playing experience online.
Sure there have been tons of forums, sites, what not that have come up with friend code exchange type solutions but that is a solution that has me disconnected from the game yet again.
As for some gamers it just straight out hinders their online playing experience. How? Well I will use myself for an example. I truly don’t have any friends outside of the internet that games like I do so exchanging a friend code with one of my friends is beyond pointless. Now I’m left with the only option of networking online between various sites to harvest friend codes of people I would like to play against online…something I have little time to do and to sit around and try to build a decent list of “friend codes” to play a game online is just redundant.
I will give friend codes this…they are a good idea but implemented in awkward-not-so-good-feeling-and-don’t-like-to-be-touched-like-that.
The only logical way I feel that friend codes could be implemented without sticking it to every other gamer is via parental controls, now there is a novel idea. I’m sure right about now a few fanboys or industry “gurus” are yelling at me saying “Nintendo says they don’t play like that!” or whatever it is Nintendo’s goals are for online.
The thing is…Nintendo isn’t perfect and friend codes are a prime example of that. It’s not too late to change it and I also think Nintendo has gone to far there. They are doing an awesome job at revolutionizing console gaming in a direction that was fathomable before the Wii. But come on; don’t try to revolutionize online gaming…just yet.

As for this excerpt from IGN on it working a treat…I love taffy but it’s a bitch because it’s always getting stuck in my teeth therefore I only treat myself to it once in awhile.

You are reading this correctly. This is one of the first complete,
and I’ll elaborate a bit more on complete in a minute, Dreamcast
collections ever to be listed on eBay. I hope that doesn’t sound too
“brag, marketing hype-ish” but it’s the truth. I will tell you –
without reservation – this is and will be the finest Dreamcast
collection ever offered on eBay. The biggest reason is because of the
quantity of SEALED GAMES that are included. And when I say sealed, I
mean brand new. 112 of these games are either SEALED BRAND NEW, or a handful
are sealed “guarantee to play” (sold at our local FYE - most actually are new
but they put that sticker on them). It’s only a handful of them. Now, it’s taking
forever to list what is sealed and what is not. If you have a question about
a particular game and you are a serious bidder I will be happy to not only
tell you about it but I will take a photo of whatever you want to see.And the games that are opened are mint cherry. Only a
very few are not in pristine condition. A couple still have some eb
games stickers on them because I just haven’t had the time to take
them off. But please understand this. This is, to my knowledge, the best complete
collection out there. And you will own it. I don’t mean to offend any
other serious game or Dreamcast collectors, but when you see the
condition of these games plus the amount that are sealed I just don’t
think others stack up.I need to be very clear and precise on what you are getting – it is a
100% complete US Dreamcast Collection. Sega of America has produced a
PDF document that lists all of the “official” US releases. I have
compared that of course with what I consider to be THE ultimate source
for Video Game Collecting – Digital Press’s DP LITE listing of the
Dreamcast USA release listing. Either way you slice it, all of the
games are here. The only one I didn’t put in here was the “Cheats N
Codes Volume 1″ because I don’t believe that belongs on the list. ?What the Digital Press listing includes are the Official Sega
Dreamcast Magazine, all 11 volumes, and a few VERY rare pieces
including the Sonic Adventure Limited Edition from Hollywood Video,
which of course, is part of this collection. It’s listed as an R7 but
I would argue it is even more rare than that. (Just as a guide, the
Web Browser 3.0 is listed as an R4 which is impossible to find in the
wild – and yes, it’s included in this collection). You get Web Browser 1
and 2 as well. I also have the two versions of the Sega Smash
Pack - one was a pack in not for retail sale and the other was. I also
have orange all-stars versions where possible.Also included are the three BLEEMCAST! Releases – Gran Turismo 2,
Metal Gear Solid, and Tekken 3.This is only the beginning. I also have the Exclusive Preview CD-ROM
of which few still are out there.Now, the other stuff:
I have the ULTRA RARE Magic The Gathering Trading Card Game Japanese
release. I’m a huge magic fan and
this game is about 100 bucks alone (paper printed cover and insert, original
game, fyi). I have two ULTRA RARE DEMOS – Dead or Alive 2 Demo and San
Francisco Rush 2049 Demo. Please know just how freaking hard these
are to obtain right now.Although not included in the Official List – Feet of Fury is a US
